Bolton’s Spanish star Fernando Hierro has hinted that he may play on another season. Alan Shearer earlier in the week went back on his decision to retire, and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is hoping the Hierro will do the same. The pair will decide at the end of the season whether the 37 year olds legs will carry him for one more campaign.

Allardyce said: "I'm not surprised at how much I've got out of Hierro this season. He's naturally fit and has been a top six player in the world, maybe even higher.”

"His natural attributes help him to sustain a high level of performance and, with his skills, you don't always have to be quick to be brilliant. If you aren't quick, your speed of thought can be greater to help you cope with the players who are quicker.”

Hierro said: "Playing football in the Premiership has been fantastic, just fantastic. I have been very happy to have taken the decision to come to Bolton. The atmosphere at the matches has been tremendous and I am pleased to say that, along with all my other memories, I will remember my time at Bolton with enormous affection.”

"But I'm not thinking too much about what happens next in my career, only about being here at Bolton. Playing here in the Premiership has been a fairy story."
