Chelsea today confirmed that Paulo Ferreira has broken a bone in his foot. He limped out of the world cup qualifier with Slovakia and rumours were circulating that he had indeed broken a bone; this now appears to be the case for the player. Club doctor Bryan English stated:

"He has broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and it will be operated on.”

"He'll be out of hospital within 24 hours."

They do hold out the hope though that he will play again this season and that the injury will only keep him out for a month.
