Well I woke up to Michael Owen telling Sky Sports News that he was very happy and had no intention of leaving Madrid. I then had a bit of a look around some Spanish sites which more or less said the same thing (except El Pais, which claims he wants to leave in the summer).
But then my thoughts turned to another interview, Alan Shearer on ITV2 last night, when asked about Owen, he stated that he spoke to him regularly.
‘Have you asked about Newcastle yet,’ said the interviewer doing his job in a fairly predictable manner.
‘No, not yet,’ Quoth Alan, then that wry smile, that usually means he is taking the mick out of the press.
If Shearer is beginning to change his mind about retiring, and I for one hope he is, I think he must be given something that will excite him, make him believe Newcastle can push on that bit further, as we once did with the arrival of Craig Bellamy. And I believe that something could very well be Michael Owen.
Your employed by a club and unless your Robbie Savage I suppose (although to be fair to him I would do anything to get out of Birmingham, well not for Blackburn admittedly) you will tell everyone, how happy you are, how much you want to stay, then speak to your agent and say ‘get me the hell out of here’.
I am not saying that is what is happening in Owen’s case, only that it’s a possibility, and it might just be the signing that will go someway to repairing, this ridiculous Bellamy situation.
