Aston Villa want Roma star

David O'Leary is keen to be re-united with Olivier Dacourt, the news that Roma are willing to let the French international leave, is prompting speculation in the Italian press that Villa will provide a strong challenge to secure his signature. O'Leary signed Dacourt, when he was manager of Leeds and is said to be keen to do it again, this time as manager of Aston Villa.

Roma have huge financial difficulties and are keen to get Dacourt off their wage bill, and an offer of around 2.5 million should be enough to secure his signature.

The player himself is thought to favour a return to England, and the chance to link up with one of his old bosses could prove a temptation too far. Several other clubs from around the continent are chasing him, but Villa are the current favourites.
