Yes even at the ripe old age of 38 (see I still have a chance to all those doubters, I have an entire 8 months in which to make the national side) Gianfranco Zola still has a chance of making an Azzurri comeback.
Staring for Cagliari this season has re-opened the door for the ex-chelsea star with Lippi quoted as saying:
“The door to the Azzurri is open for everyone,” assured the tactician this afternoon. “In some situations you can even call up a 38-year-old. The important thing is that people with enthusiasm come here.”
“I hope to create a list of 30 or 40 players to choose from when working out my World Cup squad,” added the Coach. “When I was appointed I met with many top flight clubs and Zola asked if he should be at the meeting. I told him the door was open to everyone.”
So there is hope for me yet, alright I am lacking in any talent and Zola is a genius, but I can still whack them with my crutches.
