Lazio News: Mancini admits Mardrid contact

Lazio coach Roberto Mancini admited that he has had some contact from Real Madrid in the past, stating that although nothing came of it he was contacted with a view to taking over. In a revealing interview where the young coach talked of his frustrations at Lazio, One player in particular caused Mancini special grief, Dejan Stankovic he said of the player: If we had kept hold of Stankovic,” then we would have finished in fourth place.”

“If we had kept hold of Stankovic,” said Mancini, “then it would have been another story entirely. Stefano Fiore moved to central midfield and was worked himself to the bone, but couldn’t sustain 20 games like that.”

When asked about his own future at Lazio he replied: “I haven’t signed anything,” and I have not met with anyone. If something happens over the next few days, then I’ll talk to the club.”

On Madrid he admitted contact, but refused to be placed in a corner and just said nothing had come of it, whether you read so far into that sentence would depend on if your a Lazio fan or not.

“Last season there were some phone calls with representatives of Real Madrid, but at the end nothing ever came of it.”

It seams Mancini will only stay at Lazio if funds are made available, how likely this is in Lazio's current cash crisis is a matter of some debate.
