Ajax director of football, Martin van Geel, has today confirmed reports that Newcastle United have made an approach for striker Ryan Babel. According to reports in Holland, Newcastle have tabled a bid in the region of £5 million plus Albert Luque.
Both Martin van Geel and Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd have confirmed Newcastle's interest for the pacey forward. Van Geel denied reports of an official £5 million bid though.
Ajax will decide in the next 48 hours whether they will let Ryan Babel go.
As reported earlier, Newcastle are ready to involve Spanish misfit Albert Luque in the deal. PSV manager Ronald Koeman have rekindled his interest in the player today by stating that he would love to add him to his squad before the end of the January transfer window.
