Newcastle United table Babel bid

Newcastle United have broken the transfer silence by tabling a bid of around £5m plus Albert Luque for Ajax and Holland striker Ryan Babel. Ryan Babel's talks over a new contract with Ajax have been stalled recently after Ajax failed to meet Babel's contract demands. Soon after this news broke a host of European clubs were being linked to the talented Dutchman. Arsenal, FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have all been credited with an interest in the 20-year old forward recently.

It's now understood that Newcastle United have followed up their interest by tabling a £5m bid including a part/exchange deal involving Magpies misfit Albert Luque.

Newcastle have yet to make their first signing of the January transfer window and Babel would be a welcome addition to a team short of strikers.
