Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond has resigned from his position at the troubled club. The news comes on the same day that the club has been given the go-ahead to start the season.

Richmond is blamed by many Bradford fans for the demise in the club following the few weeks of madness when he signed high earners like Benito Carbone and Ashley Ward.

Speaking to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus Richmond said no confidence from the fans made him resign. "I believe that the supporters of this club are split and I believe that while I am here the fans will remain divided.

"I have always said if such a day arrived when I lost the confidence of a significant number of the supporters of this club that it would be the right thing for me to walk away.

"I believe that time has now arrived."

It is likely that Richmond will be replaced by the clubs expected new co-owners Julian Rhodes and Gordan Gibb.
