Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is close to signing striker Wayne Allison. The 33-year-old was released by Tranmere last season and has spent the pre-season with the Blades in a bid to win a contract. Warnock has been impressed with the target man and is set to confirm the deal later in the week.

Allison is not a stranger to playing in Yorkshire having spent time with Huddersfield and Halifax throughout his career.

With strikers Laurens Ten Heuvel and Iffy Onuora already signed this summer by Warnock competition for places up front will be tough but they do say that competition is the best motivation.
