Reports today suggest that Sheffield United could face a points deduction of up to 10 points following the disgraceful scenes witnessed at Bramall Lane on Saturday. The match was abondoned with West Brom leading 3-0 with just minutes to go after Rob Ullathorne apparently picked injury and reduced the United side to just 6 players.
United were already down to 8 men after Santos and Suffo were sent of for violent conduct, and Simon Tracey had been sent off earlier in the game. Then another United player seemed to just wander of the pitch, and then Ullathorne, running fine pulled up after harmlessly clearing the ball.

The comments of West Brom manager Gary Megson lead many to believe that United players were told to get 'injured' so the match could be abondoned. The FA will meet on Thursday to decide the result of the game, and punishment could be handed out to United if they are found to have been in the wrong. This could lead to a points deduction of up to 10 points which would leave United just a point above Walsall. The Saddlers play United in the penultimate game of the season and it could add some real spice to the relegation battle.

Points deductions aside, it is widely thought the 3 points will be given to West Brom, who had done very little wrong throughout the game. Neil Warnock is now stating that the points should be given to the Baggies, but it could be a little late for them to escape some sort of punishment. The behaviour of Santos and Suffo was disgusting, and many have questioned why Warnock brought on Santos when there was a long running fued between himself and the man he fouled, Andy Johnston.

Many Saddlers fans will have their fingers crossed that another side could be dragged back into the battle at the bottom of the table, and it would be very interesting to see both sides from Sheffield, and Barnsley, another Yorkshire side, fighting amongst us at the bottom of the table.
