Butterfield to join Palace

Danny Butterfield looks set to join Crystal Palace from 1st Division rivals Grimsby Town on a free transfer. The utility player is out of contract at Blundell Park and normally a fee would be granted due to Butterfield's age of under 24. However because The Mariners did not offer a contract that matched or bettered Butterfield's previous deal no fee will be granted.

Butterfield broke into the Grimsby team 5 years ago and was an important squad player playing in almost every position, bar goal, for the club. During his time he made 124 League apperances scoring 3 goals.

Butterfield this morning was speaking to the South London club and will under-go a medical either this afternoon or tomorrow. If all goes well Butterfield could sign for The Eagles this week.

Both the Sheffield teams and Boston United had registered an interest in the former Leicester YT.
