"We’ve been dragging performances out of them for a while now and it showed.

"It’s disappointing because we wanted to finish the season at The City Ground on a high note for our fans, who have been superb and stuck with us all the way.

"But I’m not going to criticise the boys because since I took over last July they have worked tremendously hard."

"The dressing room is awfully quiet and I'm sure they will be down for a while, but if they think that life is going to be easier in the second division then they will have to think again.

"We have given away too many goals this season and it has cost us. We have lost to sides that maybe were not good enough to beat us.

"We will have to wait and see what the financial implications will be for us but e will continue to develop our own players and it is our aim to be good enough to win the league below by a significant number of points."

"The dressing room was relaxed today, I think it was relaxed because of the confidence and the assurance because we know what we can do.

"The players have been absolutely tremendous, all the credit should go to them. Since we took over they have been absolutely brilliant, and that's not just the players that have played today - that's everybody who's played a part in this success in turning things around."

"In the second half we did much better, but it was too late by then.

"Whether they were sitting back or we played better, in the second half we had enough chances, but it was a very poor show in the first half and the game was lost then really."

"I wanted to try and score some goals and get back in the game because goal difference is important and we won the second half 1-0," he said.

"We'll have to win next Saturday and keep our fingers crossed, but we never do it the easy way.

"It will go to the wire, as I've said all along.

"It's extremely disappointing today though."

Ternent did pay tribute to the 2200 travelling supporters, who never stopped singing throughout the game.

"The fans were absolutely fantastic today and they always are, but I don't take it for granted."

“I think Andy (Marriott) had a good game and was called upon to keep us in the game and made a super save from the penalty.

“You would have thought that it would have been a lifeline that we needed to spur us on but it seemed to work in the opposite direction.

“I thought we knocked everything long and never had the bottle to get hold of the ball and pass it. We never put Norwich under any pressure. Everything went route one and that is not what we worked on in training.

“It is very disappointing to let everybody down. People are given jobs to do from set plays and when they don’t do that it ends up in the back of the net.

“That has happened time and time again and it is a sign of weakness”.

"I wasn't concerned when we missed the penalty at all and am pleased the players' heads didn't drop. It's been a nice little run but the players have worked hard for it. We've got to try and reproduce that next Sunday.

"The support all season has been phenomenal, for that many to travel to an away game, they've given up their time and money and we'll dedicate today's result to those fans."
