England legend Gary Lineker is heading a consortium that is bidding to take over at troubled Leicester City. The Foxes made an appeal to go into administration this morning to the High Court following their publicised financial problems since relegation from the Premier League in May.

Now it has emerged that a consortium, which includes Lineker plans to buy back the club from the administrator.

A statmement released on the Leicester website regarding the consortium said that they plan: ""to buy Leicester City as a going concern from the administrator and to back (club manager) Micky Adams and the team in their quest for promotion."

Lineker is joined in the consortium by Carphone Warehouse boss David Ross and club chairman Martin George.

Lineker began his glorious career with Leicester before moving onto Everton, Barcelona and Spurs.
