Sheffield Wednesday have failed in their bid to take Leeds midfielder David Batty to Hillsborough. Wednesday boss Terry Yorath was keen to take the 33-year-old across Yorkshire to boost his side which looks set to face yet another relegation battle.

Yorath has now stated that his bid was unsuccessful with the former England player not willing to step down a division.

"He was a target and we did have talks, but David is Leeds through and through and I think he wants to end his career there," Yorath told The Owls official website.
