Individual errors and lapses of concentration cost Leeds dearly as they slumped to a 4-1 loss. Despite being the better side for long periods, the scoreline is the most important feature at this stage of the season. It was almost a reversal of Mondays win at Man City, where we came away with 3 points we didn’t deserve. Leeds started like a train, and Vidukas volley in the first minute was a sign of things to come. Almost immediately, the big man did get a goal though. Some superb play from Pennant set up the striker, and he was coolness personified as he strolled round Taylor in the Birmingham goal to net. It was almost 2 within 10 minutes, and should have been. Milners cross shot fell to Vidukas feet, but he got the angles wrong, and hit the side netting with an empty goal gaping. The home side started to get a foot hole in the game, and equalised after some poor defending. The rest of the half was a battle with both teams pushing on. After the break, Leeds looked the more likely to score. Smith and Viduka were having stormers, and the Birmingham defence was creaking. Out of the blue though, City scored, a break down the right lef to a chip ion. Caldwell made a fatal error in allowing the ball to run, and a square ball lef to Hughes having a tap in for his second of the game. A minute later, and it was as good as over. Forsell beat the offside trap far too easily, and ran on to score. It was an unbelievable score, and two minutes of madness had cost Leeds dear. With 10 minutes to go, it was 4 – a harshly awarded penalty against Caldwell, and Forsell fired home. Leeds can count themselves unlucky, but defending is a huge part of the game, and Leeds didn’t do it….
