Leeds United have yet to make a formal decision on the future of Leeds Manager, Peter Reid. Leeds have suffered a disasterous run of form, losing 4-0 to both Leicester and Everton and slip to 18th in the Premiership
The speculation that Peter Reid maybe the second Managerial casualty of the Premiership 03'-'04 season continues this evening with a decision on his future due to be announced tomorrow.
Meeting
Following a run of poor form at the start of this season, Peter Reid has come under fire from the Shareholders of LUFC and the board has been under a high degree of pressure to make a decision regarding the present performance of the team. In a meeting that has been planned for many weeks, Leeds Chairman Professor John McKenzie and Deputy Chairman, Allan Leighton took the opportunity to discuss Peter Reid. Following the meeting, McKenzie flew back to Leeds to hold talks with Reid in a Halifax Hotel. We understand those talks are now completed but unusually in circumstance like these, there has been no official Statement released by the Leeds board. This has prompted speculation that either Leeds are weighing up a number of options with other potential managers or that certain conditions have been agreed with Peter Reid that must be approved by the board before a final decision.
Stability
Leeds have had three managers in the past fifteen months and a further change could push the patience of supporters over the edge. Opinion polls still place Peter Reid as the fans favourite and it would seem the Elland Road faithfull are willing to give the Gaffer every chance to succeed. Since taking over, Peter Reid has seen the departure of Harry Kewell to Liverpool, Danny Mills has left on load to Middlesbrough and Oliver Dacourts move was finalised. These three deals alone have saved a near £10m in wages. A number of loan deals have seen the arrival of seven new faces at Elland Road however many of these came late in the close season or as recent as three weeks ago. Whilst there are some early signs of potential from these deals, the team has dramatically under performed over the past three weeks leading to the drop in confidence from the Shareholders. With a club that has been in turmoil for the past 15 months since the departure of David O'Leary, many fans feel a period of stability is the best way forward at present and this latest bout of unrest will only add to the pressure that is facing the Board, Managerial staff and players.
