Fabian Delph's transfer to Aston Villa looks likely to be rubber stamped later today. Leeds Chairman Ken Bates spoke on Yorkshire Radio this morning confirming that the talented 19 year old is likely to be gone. With an offer accepted, it will just be a case of Delph agreeing personal terms with Villa.
No fee has been confirmed, but rumours suggest it is around the £6 million mark – possibly rising to as much as £8 million should Villa perform well.
It’s a good deal for everyone to be honest. Leeds will receive a huge transfer fee for a 19 year old with only 1 season behind him – a very good first half, with an average second half. Villa get one of the most promising players in the country, whilst Delph will get the chance to test himself at the highest level – under the guidance of a very well respected manager in Martin O’Neil. Interestingly Bates has commented on how well Villa conducted themselves with this transfer, which led to an agreement whilst others, notably Man City, dithered. The Chairman has said that money is available to boss Simon Grayson, and that a new signing is imminent….
