No Page, no Adebola, no chance. Sheffield Wednesday became the latest bottom end of the table side to take points off Coventry City, with the realisation that, unless something drastic happens, this is going to be a long, hard season for Coventry supporters. Apologies again for the delay in getting this report to you anything like on time, but, following more stunning ineptness from my beloved Coventry City, I've spent the week questioning exactly why I bother anymore....

A cut-price journey to Sheffield, which became slightly more expensive after tipping the kind sir who organised the trip as he was once again out of pocket (And it was still cheaper than the "official"!), once again saw our potential heroes come home as pointless zeroes.

We arrived at the ground minutes before kick-off, having stopped off for a beer or three at a quality drinking establishment - a necessary medicine before watching two of the poorer teams play out a dull fixture (Classed as "entertaining" by the SW sportnetwork site - just how bad has their season been so far?!). The 90:10 beer to food ratio is highly recommended until things improve....

Once inside, the considerable numbers who had made the trip were treated to a totally clueless display against seemingly relegation fodder Sheffield Wednesday, leaving Coventry City supporters finally realising this season we are deeply in the sh*t.

Heath replaced Page in defence, with Morrell replacing Adebola, from the side that defeated Watford four days earlier - and half an idea was replaced by no hope, as far as looking like winning was concerned.

SW were gifted their first goal after 15 minutes, as Coughlan was allowed a free header from a corner (Though TV replays and newspaper stills suggest he was using the Coventry defenders to leap highest), with Coventry City equalising through a McSheffrey penalty.

Said equaliser came on the half hour mark, with McSheffrey going over in the area after a challenge by keeper Lucas - a decision that didn't go down well with the Wednesday fans yards away from the incident!

Minutes before half-time Wednesday went 2-1 up, thanks to a fairly decent strike from Brunt, though it has to be said that had certain midfield players shown any effort whatsoever, the chance would never have arisen, as the ball would have been in the stands. Despite the lack of effort by others, Bywater seems to have unfairly been blamed for the goal.

Wednesday had chances to extend their lead either side of half-time, while McSheffrey could - and should - have equalised for Coventry.

Shortly after receiving a booking, Flood was replaced by Jorgensen (No relevance between the two happenings - just linking a sentence to make it look fuller).

Morrell brought Coventry level for the second time with a header from a corner after 74 minutes, before Andrew Whing inexplicably wrestled Peacock to the ground inside the penalty area. Quite what Whing was trying to do I'm unsure (Though it's obvious he's been watching Richard Shaw closely), but it was about as clear a decision as you're likely to see - and about as stupid a challenge possible inside the area....

Brunt scored his second goal of the game, and gave Wednesday a 3-2 lead.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, with Bywater opting to join the attacking half of the pitch as a late, late Coventry City corner was cleared off the line.

When the highlight of your day is trading insults with Wednesday fans outside, rather than what you've just wasted £18 on, you know you've had a bad day - and sadly, that really was the highlight.

After the match, there was apologies and anger all round from members of Coventry City's management team, though words not action seemingly now cut no ice with supporters.

There are far tricker fixtures than Hull and Sheffield Wednesday to be played in the next few weeks (After the merciful break from all things Championship this weekend), and on current form, only the biggest optimist can see Coventry being outside the bottom one once they are out of the way....

Like tactics, I can't see any sign of an optimist wearing Sky Blue.
