One week(ish) to go 'til the season starts, and not much sign of the five signings MA wants to make! Though if you believe one premium rate phone-line company, Coventry City are soon to sign players likely to give Chelsea a run for their money....
9. Micky Adams is joint 13th favourite (Along with six other managers) to get the sack first in the Championship, the odds being 16/1. Steve Claridge actually wins(?) the contest, managing to get fired weeks before a ball has even been kicked....
8. Despite their own considerable personal wealth, the board of Coventry City ask supporters to raise £250,000 to keep the Academy going - a perfectly reasonable request.
7. A pathetic allocation of 1,400 tickets for Coventry City's opening game of the season, away to Norwich, is snapped up - surprise!! (Check out the "DJ's Fun Bus" link for details on cheap away travel). And a potentially pathetic 16,000 people might be all that are allowed into the Arena if/when it finally opens on August 20th. While the ground might not be ready, the pitch is - which kind of leaves me asking that age old question: "if you had no hands, would you still wear gloves?"
6. Adrian Heath departs Coventry City, with Micky Adams wishing him well in his new job at Derby. This confuses Derby some-what, who ask: "what job at Derby?" Reports claim that Derby are concerned they could be accused of "accusations that they made an illegal approach for Heath", and my guess is that Coventry City might ask for £250,000 in compensation if there is a case to answer....
5. Coventry City's urine poor pre-season form continues, with defeats against Rushden & Diamonds (1-2) and Walsall (0-2). Clayton Ince is kicked off the pitch in the first of the two games, with just how bad Coventry City's goalkeeping problems severely underlined, as Richard Duffy is forced to take over in goal. 18-year-old Jonathan Tuffey is called up for the Walsall match.
4. Graham Hover finally leaves Coventry City, after 21 years of service. To obviously have enjoyed his job (Why else would he have lasted so long at the club?), and to seemingly have done nothing wrong, the reasons for him going will probably just have to remain a mystery....
3. Reports announce Tim Sherwood's retirement. Old news to those of us that support Coventry City, as we* thought he had retired towards the end of 2004.
2. Former Coventry City boss Gordon Strachan enjoys a dream start as Celtic boss (A dream for Rangers fans anyway!), being on the wrong end of a comical 5-0 rout at the hands (Feet?) of Slovakia's Artmedia - to quote the much missed Mark & Lard: "Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?" (Might be worth a couple of pence on Celtic to still (Sadly) get through to the next round though). The wee Ginger One describes the display as: "the worst night of my footballing life", obviously conveniently forgetting to include "days", as there were plenty of completely doggy-doo ones in his time at Highfield Road....
1. According to one sensationalist premium rate football phone-line and website (Which charges £1 a minute for you to check out their stories) - with a success rate probably lower than Tim Sherwood's Coventry City career - the following deals are on the cards for Micky Adams:
20/7 - Adams Brokers Staggering Deal!?
22/7 - Hot-shot Hijack On? Striker Stunner Transfer U-turn
24/7 - International Star Shock!? City Snap Up Coveted Stunner!?
25/7 - Hotshot Lifeline!? + City Seal Controversial Deal?
29/7 - Kop Target Joins?! + Agent confirms switch sensation!?
Any of those stories ring any bells so far?! If it needs rubber-stamping as to how much BS this particular site talks (Allegedly, of course), they recently carried a story that David O' Leary was set to splash £30 million on ONE player!! Bullsh*t update to be included on this page every week from now on....
* This opinion does not, of course, represent the views of EVERY Coventry City supporter.
