With the new season only a month away, things are starting to happen at Coventry City! Micky Adams team of Championship winners for the 2005/6 season are being assembled.* Woo! Hoo! Now if only that big Arena thing could be finished on time....
9. Julian Joachim's fall from top flight, potential England star (The latter statement isn't my opinion, but that of a respectable soccer website), to a basement league player is complete, as he signs on at Boston (To form a fairly decent Division Two strike partnership alongside another former Leeds and Coventry City player, Noel Whelan) - and all in the space of a few years too. Had he just accepted what was on offer last summer, he probably would still have been a Coventry City hero - and perhaps would even have been forgiven for making the treatment table his second home for a while. Hindsight is, etc....

8. One time highly rated midfield/striker Jamie Scowcroft (Once sold by Ipswich to Leicester for £3,000,000!!) re-joins Micky Adams, and is the first of half-dozen Leicester and former Leicester players linked with a move to Coventry City. With a league goal scoring average of one goal every five matches, he's no Michael Owen, but is still better quality than some we've seen here over recent years (Yulu, Holdsworth, Goater, etc).

7. Former Delta Force, Crewe, and Dundee loanee goalkeeper Clayton Ince signs for Coventry City (Three clean sheets in 24 matches last season). While some Coventry City fans seem to choose to forget that he might have been part of a defence that shipped goals last season (Positive opinions obviously based on his display in Crewe's 1-0 win last November - a win in part to the seasons dodgiest penalty award), the fact that some Crewe supporters were delighted he's left should perhaps help ram home the point that our strikers might need to score at least twice per match if we want all three points.

6. Pre-season training starts, and Steve Staunton is thankfully nowhere to be seen - and soon after his offer of a contract is withdrawn. With one "way past his sell-by-date" player already having re-signed up (Not to mention at least one "sell-by-date" not yet found), two would be two too many (Rumours that older age [I won't say old age, as he's probably younger than me] means he merely forgot the location of the new training ground are denied). The one time international was quoted as saying: "I think I proved to myself last year that I can still do a job at this level" - if he's talking about at left-back, I think he proved to a watching public that he can't....

5. Leicester defender Matt Heath is said to be interesting Mickey Adams, though there is also interest from newly promoted Hull City too. He's younger than Richard Shaw, and taller than Richard Shaw - sign him up! If he can play football too, that's a bonus! Sheffield United's Paul Thirwell is also said to be on the summer shopping list, but the fact he might actually cost money means, without sacrificing Stern John (Hands Off!), the only way he will be playing at the Arena this season is as an opponent....

4. Chris Day (ex-QPR keeper), Darryl Powell (ex-Derby, amonst other sides), Paul Watson (ex-Brighton defender), and Andy Impey (Ex-QPR, West Ham, Leicester utility player) join Coventry City for pre-season training. Overall opinions on Coventry City websites are: Day, "good prospect" (At 30 years of age!); Powell, "Cliff Richard no!"; Watson, "who?" (It should be mentioned that Mr. Watson has been in a fair few promotion winning sides!!); and Impey, "Cliff Richard no!"

The fact that people seem willing to pay so much for all thing Coventry City suggests to me that I really should plug CCFC-Bay a bit more. Go to CCFC-Bay and buy something please ....

2. There's confusion and crossed fingers as stories that Tim Sherwood has been paid off by Coventry City are doing the rounds. One or two muppets try to defend the player that cost so much, but offered Coventry City so little (For "so little" read "nothing"), mainly based on the fact he once captained a side that won the Premiership. Jimmy Greaves once scored a sh*t-load of goals for Spurs, but it doesn't mean he's worth risking a wage on, does it?

1. Micky Adams pleads with Coventry City supporters to "recreate the Highfield Road atmosphere at their new home" (I'm presuming he means post-Peter Reid, as it was morgue-like under Monkey Heed). With the season ticket "Early Bird" scheme over, and only around a quarter of the ground sold, the volume of noise created at the Derby game is likely to be a distant memory, with matchday tickets costing £21 a time (Plus an extra £3 if they're purchased on matchdays? Must check my facts properly before going to print....). A plea to those in charge: Please make the "Early Bird" price THE price! Those willing to shell out for the season should be rewarded for their loyalty, not charged almost the same amount as those that pick and choose the best matches....
