If ever a club needed to make the most of the transfer window being open, it is .... was .... Coventry City, despite, a few weeks ago, Lee Carsley stating that bringing players in during the window might not benefit the club. How could new players do anything other than improve the side? 

SISU, seemingly taking the blame for a lot of our recent results, have possibly decided that wherever we are in the table, and whatever ticket offer they (Or the club) come up with, attendances rarely rise much more than the (Very) average, so, as the club are already running at a loss, we simply cannot afford to buy new players. 

For example, just over 15,000 bothered turning up for our fixture versus Norwich, where a positive result could have seen us go second in the table. If that's the best we can get when we are properly challenging for the Premiership, I don't particularly blame SISU for keeping their wallet closed. 

As with every other season, this is (Was) the classic 'Catch 22' situation, and I doubt there is any way out of it (Again). We weren't particularly good when we were bothering the Top 6, but the fact we were there could have given us something to build on. As an investment, it obviously wasn't worth bothering with. 

While most supporters recognised a long time ago the squad needs strengthening, Aidy Boothroyd was only really considered bringing in a left-back. But, having seen O'Halloran play one whole game after half a season out injured, decided he know longer needed to buy anybody for said position. I wonder just how bad is our financial situation is for him to come to that conclusion?! 

The players we have have recently proved they can be quite decent, yet have only one win to show for the last two months work - and that was in the F.A. Cup. For half a game against Crystal Palace, the players looked as if they really knew what they were doing - though, as they often do, they did do their best to self-destruct too (The biggest culprit being O'Halloran, who was, unsurprisingly, shattered after an hour!).

Prior to the Palace game, we were supposed to go back to basics, but I've seen little evidence of this. Some games we've just been unlucky, especially against Sheffield United, where the players looked capable (It's amazing what playing XI players in their correct position can do for a team!), but somehow failed to score. But, too often, they're just not good enough. Even the reputation of being 'bullies' has disappeared. 

Since SU, we've managed to throw away a lead three times in three games, and lost them all. Absolutely unacceptable. Saturday wasn't even about being beaten by a better (Reserve) team either, it was about giving away ridiculously soft goals. As was, for all the praise it received, QPR's first goal the previous Sunday. Any sort of challenge from Keogh and/or McSheffrey would have been appreciated. 

As well as the lack of anything at all on the pitch, something that is also unacceptable is the attitude of some of our supporters. Comments such as: 'Did you really expect to beat them? They're top of the table' or 'They're a Premiership side', are just nonsense. There seems little point in playing certain fixtures if there is so little belief that we are going to gain a result.

That said, I can only see the poor run continuining away to Leeds at the weekend! Maybe we should save the petrol money, and send them the points in the post?

Also, accusing supporters of being fickle because they once rated a player that was half-decent, then criticising them when they disappoint for ten weeks is a nonsense too. I guess a manager that drops a player is also fickle? Football is all about opinions, and not many people want to be negative, but, too often, Coventry City supporters are given reason to be.

We might have a different manager, and a fair few different players from last season, but once again I find myself completely fed up with all things Coventry City, and I am far from alone in this. As I often write: 'some things never change'.

I would love to, for one season at least, write something original for the 'Fanzone Section'. Sadly, I could probably dig out my Telegraph piece from the end of January/start of February from any of the last five seasons (Or more), and I would only have to change a few names, but the rest of the wording would be the same...
