Lincoln City's poor start to the season continued after Braintree beat them 1-0 on Saturday evening. The fans started turning on Steve Tilson during the game as Lincoln yet again failed to provide a goal threat with only a header against the underside of the bar realistically looking like going in.

Braintree kicked off and launched a quick on the attack with loanee Nelson holding off Yiadom. The Braintree man won a corner from Nutter before Matt Paine headed a Ben Wright (not our former player Ben Wright) wide. It was a strong start from the hosts as Marks headed wide from a free kick before a rare Lincoln attack saw McCallum shoot just wide from distance. Barralcough also headed wide just a few minutes later as the Imps were trying to come into a game in whihc Braintree had been by far the better side.

The Imps wasted a succession of set pices before Braintree took the deserved lead. Marks chested the ball to Yiadom and surprise, surprise, the defence didn't close him down and he was able to smash the ball in from 25 yards. Joe Anyon let his defenders know it simply wasn't good enough in no uncertain terms.

Marks had an effort cleared by Nutter before Yiadom his a poor shot well over the bar. Perry was booked for persistent fouling. There were no more major incidents during the first half.

The hosts should have doubled their lead on several occasions early on in the second half as they hit the woodwork from Wright, Davis headed straight at Anyon and Marks danced his way through the defence before shooting wide from six yards.

Nutter hit a tame shot straight into the hands of McDonald. Taylor and Smith came on for Perry and McCallum, the latter of which had got into a heated debate with fans a few minutes earlier. Barraclough linked with Fuseini to play in Russell, who when through on goal tried to cross rather than shoot, and his cross went beyond everyone.

Another Russell cross a few minutes later saw Jamie Taylor head against the underside of the bar and bounced on the wrong side of the line as far as the Imps were concerned.

The second half performance was much improved on the first (not saying much) but the Imps never looked like equalising and went down to their fourth defeat of the season.
