Imps sign Simon Russell from Cambridge

Lincoln City have signed midfielder Simon Russell from Cambridge United. The midfielder had been in talks with the Imps during the week and agreed to join Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon.

Simon Russell came through the youth system at Hull but made just one appearance before leaving for Kidderminster Harriers. He played for them for four years, getting relegated in 2004/5 and his signing means that he is the third player from their squad of that season to join Lincoln at some point (the other's being Dean Keates and Gary Birch).

An unsuccessful spell at York followed before a loan spell at Cambridge was made permanent a year ago.

He scored 6 goals in 31 games for Cambridge last season.
