Hone's wage demands may force Tilson's hand

Steve Tilson has admitted that although he would love to keep defender Danny Hone, the young defender's wage demands could make it unlikely that he would stay. Hone made his first team debut in October 2007, since then he has had a loan spell at Darlington.

Hone made a surprise debut in Peter Jackson's first game as Lincoln manager back in October 2007 and he established himself as a first team under the former manager. A poor run of games under Sutton saw him loaned to Darlington before returning in January earlier this year. His return corresponded with Lincoln conceded on a more regular basis, despite this he was one of just three players to have been offered a new contract for next season.

Whilst Andy Hutchinson has signed his contract, Hone is stalling and Steve Tilson has admitted that the main stumbling block is the defender's wages.

Speaking to the BBC, Tilson stated "He is after a bit more money. I am keen to keep Danny but I have a budget that I have to work to" said Tilson.

This will have alerted potential suitors as to the defender's availability.

I just wonder what so many negative posters on here would say if their boss told them that they were going to have to re-negociate their salary but that whatever the outcome they'd be earning less than before, then the company next door offered them better wages for a similar job? It can hardly be being called greedy, after all, his bills won't have gone down proportionately, more likely they'd have gone up.

Some of the comments on here these days are so pathetic they just aren't worth reading!

I would go to the company next door. The lad has been offered a contract with the Imps and if it is not good enough then go somewhere else.
I had to re-apply for my job which is not a pleasant experience.
The negative comments you think comes is from a disappointment we feel. Footballers are after the best deal possible we understand that,but we can only afford so much,then that is that.

I highly doubt Hone will have been offered a lower deal because if we did then he could walk away for free and we'd be due to compensation as he's U24.

I have it on good authority that Danny has been asked to take a 40% wage cut ..... pity Tilly & Brush arn't doing the same, if that is indeed the case?!!!

Tilson and Brush are under contract,and they have more work to do without Lindsay and Musselwhite As with the other players who are under contract the club is legally bound. Dannys contract ends on the 30th June so is out of work after then unless he finds another club or signs for the Imps.

The club also has bills to pay,and its not any good paying more than we can afford.

DH was one of the very few players who actually did his utmost to prevent us being relegated. It is sad to see so much negativity surrounding him. He has to do the best for himself and if Lincoln want to pay him peanuts I would walk too, if I had that option.
This just underlines the cack we are in.

I think if we let him just walk away without fighting to keep him then we are the stupid ones.
I actually agree with Posh on this, you cannot possibly expect people to take a pay cut when household bills and fuel etc are going through the roof.
I support Danny in whatever he chooses to do and I will not be happy to see him go nor give him a 'greedy' tag for doing so.
Look out for number 1 in life as nobody else will!!
