If Lincoln City do stay in League Two they will have one less local derby after Chesterfield's promotion to League One was confirmed on Friday....and then didn't even play. Wycombe's failure to win means that Chesterfield can now only finish at low as third. Meanwhile, Plymouth gave their survival bid hope.

Chesterfield have been top since early on in the season and have always looked like nailed on certs for promotion. With an excellent home record at their new B2Net Stadium, they finally solved their "on the road" issues that have stopped them in the promotion race in recent years, and their promotion was confirmed after Wycombe failed to win at Torquay United.

It now means that only Bury and Shrewsbury can finish above the Spireites and it now means that the B2Net Stadium will be hosting League One football next season. It's bad news for the Imps though as, in a division that is rapidly becoming a southern division, the loss of yet another local derby isn't great for the already fragile finances at Sincil Bank.

Replacing Chesterfield could by Plymouth........that would replacing our closest game with the longest possible trip in the country for the Imps. The Mariners could easily avoid the drop though after a win at Dagenham on Friday. They have a game in hand on the teams that are safe but have five points to make up, they will also have to wait until Saturday evening to find out if they still have a realistic chance of staying up.

THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN BY THE END OF BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Swindon if they lose to Notts County and Sheffield Wednesday, and Dagenham avoid defeat on Monday against Huddersfield Town. Only this scenario can guarantee that Swindon get relegated this weekend. Swindon are also the only club who can be realistically relegated by 5pm on Monday evening. Plymouth can't get relegated because of their game in hand.

Bury will win promotion to League One if they win at Chesterfield on Monday and Shrewsbury fail to pick up at least four points against Hereford and Accrington. Bury can be promoted even if they lost on Monday, for this to happen Shrewsbury would need to fail to pick up more than one point over the weekend.

Wycombe will confirm a place in the Playoffs (at least) if they beat Crewe on Monday and any of Stevenage, Gillingham and Accrington fail to pick up at least three points over the weekend. Port Vale would also have to win both games to prevent Wycombe from guaranteeing their promotion spot.

Stockport County will be relegated if they fail to get more than one point against Port Vale and Northampton.
