On loan striker Ashley Grimes has ruled out moving to Lincoln on a permanent basis, citing that he believes he could easily cope at League One level. Grimes is closing in on the 20 goal mark for the season but has admitted that regardless of whether he gets a new deal at Millwall, he's not interested in staying in League Two.

Grimes currently sits on 17 goals for the season, not bad for a player who only joined in late October, and it had been hoped that he would join the Imps on a permanent basis, with Bob Dorrian even stating that the club would willingly break the bank to bring him to Sincil Bank permanently. However, Ashley Grimes has dashed hopes by stating that he has no interest in playing in League Two next season.

"I think I could a job in League One but I'd also like the chance to prove myself in the Championship because I never got a run there with Millwall," Grimes told Sky Sports "It just depends whoever likes me and follows up their interest in the summer. As a striker, you always want to score goals and luckily that's happened for me this season. But whichever club I play for I'll try my best to score goals and do well for the team. We'll just have to wait and see where that may be."

This story is incredibly similar to the Davide Somma love-affair at the end of last season when the Imps took an out of favour, and previously goal shy striker, helping him smash his own personal goals record before then the player ruling out joining the Imps on a permanent basis.

His time at Lincoln isn't his first experience of League Two. Back in 2006/7 he spent time at Swindon Town, making his debut against Lincoln in a televised game, however, Lincoln are the only club where he has scored on a consistent basis.

Grimes hasn't ruled out leaving Millwall either. He has been at Millwall for a few seasons and barely made 20 appearances in that time, and with the Lions chasing promotion to the Premiership, as well as the form of Steve Morrison, Neil Harris and Kevin Lisbie, Grimes' chances will be extremely limited if the Lions do go up, especially as they would more than likely strengthen.

The Imps currently have just one striker (Scott Spencer) contracted on for next season. Delroy Facey, Drewe Broughton and Andy Hutchinson are all out of contract and only Delroy has done anything to justify a new deal.

I thought Spencer was only signed until the end of this season?

No surprise that we will not keep Grimes, never thought we would - same sitaution as Somma really!!
