New plans by the Scottish Premier League reveal that they are looking into the possibility of re-establishing a cup competition between English and Scottish clubs. Although no specific details have been revealed, it is believed that any such plans would involves clubs from all professional levels in both countries.

With the Scottish game in decline in recent years, the men north of the border have long been looking at ways to revitalise the game in Scotland. With Celtic and Rangers being undoubtably the two most successful sides north of the border, the Scottish game, from an outsiders point of view, has become painfully dull, and you'd have to go way back to the 1984/5 season when Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen became the last side other than the Glaswegian neighbours to win the title.

Almost ironically it was Aberdeen's Chairman, Stewart Milne, who initially suggested a British Cup in 2001, although it was rejected by the Football League. How such a tournament would work was the main concern, especially given some of the distances some teams could end up traveling to just compete in this tournament. For example, the longest distance between two professional teams in England and Scotland is the whopping 618 miles (quickest route according to Google) between Plymouth and Aberdeen.

Plans for a British Cup have again been bought up as the Scottish Premier League tries to improve things. They intend to re-merge with the Scottish Football League for the first time since 1997. The clubs in England and Scotland have on occassions met in competitive competitions against each other, most notably in European competitions in recent years, but the last tournament between English and Scottish League clubs was the Anglo-Scottish cup, competed between 1975 and 1981, the six tournaments only ever had one Scottish club in the final, St Mirren, losing to Bristol City in 1978 before being the same side two years later. In four of the six years, the final was between two English clubs.

There will be a meeting in May to discuss the plans, although much like Celtic and Rangers' hopes to join the English Premier League, this could be a non-starter.

we went to forfar away on a midweek game a few years ago to see the imps one of the best away games following the imps ,bring it on
