Lincoln City were second best for long periods against Oxford United but had two amusing own goals to thank for a victory. City's first win under the floodlights at Sincil Bank since a 3-1 win against Hereford on a Friday night almost a year ago has moved City back up to 15th.

Oxford kick off the match and it was them who created the first chance as former Lincoln trialist Heslop hit wide from distance. City's first attack of the game came after five minutes and it proved to be a fortunate one as McCallum's cross was hit by O'Keefe, his effort deflected heavily off of an Oxford defender and trickled against the post before he followed up his own effort and tapped into the empty net, with the goalkeeper grounded after being wrong footed.

Delroy Facey was flagged offside before then launching a lob onto the roof of the net. Oxford were enjoying plenty of possession but poor passing stopped them from creating anything. Howell was injured when challenging for the ball with Anthony Tonkin, another former Lincoln trialist, with the Imps man having to go off injured and he was replaced by Mustapha Carayol.

It was a poor first half in fairness with neither side creating anything of note and it wasn't until just before half time that the game's next talking point occured. Heslop fired over from long range but from the resulting free kick, the ball fell to Tonkin and after a jinking run, his tame shot goalwards was spilled by Carson and was smashed tino the net by MacLean, although the former Sheffield Wednesday striker almost missed the open goal. Carayol and Grimes both had shots blocked to end the half.

The second half was much the same with Oxford enjoying most of the possession but failing to create any realistic chances, although Tom Craddock did fire well over the net from distance.

Batt was booked for the visitors for a foul on McCallum but the free kick was played straight into Clarke's gloves. It didn't take long for the Imps to restore the lead though, even though it was arguably undeserved. Carayol played the ball in and it was knocked goalwards by Facey. His goalbounded effort saw Worley attempt to clear, only to acrobatically toe-poke the ball into his own net and it was 2-1.

A few minutes later and it was 3-1 through another own goal. Carayol ran into the box before playing it along the six yard area and just as it appeared there was no danger, Tonkin swung his foot at the ball and sliced it into his own net. It was a goal that was very similar to a 94th minute own goal that Swansea City scored at Sincil Bank back in April 2005.

Despite the 3-1 scoreline, it was still the visitors who had most of the possession but they didn't do anything with it and neither side managed another noteworthy chance at the game ended 3-1.

Not sure about the 2nd best bit....We should have been 2 up and despite Ox having plenty of possession before their goal Carson did not have a save to make.......
.
2nd Half Caryol ran their defence ragged and again Carson made onyl 2 saves?

The reason I say second best was because they enjoyed a lot of possession. We created by far the more chances but had they had someone capable of hitting a barn door they would have easily gotten something out of the game.

Thought they moved the bal about wel but the highly rates Constable was poor
