Ex-Lincoln striker Martin Gritton has found a new club following his released from Chesterfield. With a decent goalscoring record in the Football League, most thought the lowest level he would go to is the Blue Square Premier, but he has instead signed for Evostik League side Chester.

Gritton signed for the Imps from Grimsby in January 2006, but despite scoring a debut goal at Stockport, he struggled for form at Sincil Bank. He joined Mansfield on loan towards the end of the 2006/7 season and helped them avoid relegation but he was soon released from Sincil Bank. He has since played for Macclesfield, Chesterfield and Torquay (loan), but was let go by Chesterfield in January.

He was linked with moves to several sides, including back to former sides Grimsby and Macclesfield, but few could have expected that he would move to Evostik First Division North leaders Chester. To put it into some context, that is the fourth tier of the non-League and the same level as Lincoln United (although United play in the southern section).

Chester, who only formed last year after the dissolvement of Chester City, who were in the Blue Square Premier at the time, are currently top of the Evostik First Division North, losing only twice all season.

"Martin is a fantastic signing for us at this stage of the season and will give is yet another option up front and bring a lot of experience to the team," manager Neil Young told the club's official website. "Martin partnered Gary Jones up front at Grimsby so we are well aware what he can bring to the side and we are extremely happy he has agreed to join us."

Gritton made his debut as a late substitute in a 1-0 win over Chorley on Saturday.
