Despite a spirited start, City lost 2-0 at home to Chesterfield. The Imps' downfall was their inability to successfully complete a simple pass and as soon as Davies pounced on a Carson rebound from Julian Kelly's suicidal back pass. Holden secured the win for the visitors.

Chesterfield won an early free kick close to goal when Djilali was was fouled, he took the free kick but Howell blocked it. Morris hit a shot wide for the visitors before City's response saw Howell play in Facey, however, his ball was cleared for a corner and in typical Lincoln City tradition, the corner was wasted. Hoyte had to go off injured after ten minute and he was replaced by Fuseini.

Grimes had a shot blocked before Hunt came close to scoring with a low drive, Lee tipping it out for a corner even though it was going wide of the target. The subsequent corner was easily clear and Chesterfield launched an attack, Kelly did pick up a loose pass and blasted it back in the direction of Carson. The goalkeeper had trouble controlling it and the ball came back off of his knee and straight to Davies, the Chesterfield striker chipped the ball over Carson and slotted it into the empty net.

On loan Grimes hit an effort wide but Chesterfield took the ball down the other end from the resultant goal kick and Watts dragged Davies to the ground to give the visitors a penalty. Davies himself stepped up but Carson saved his penalty. It's the second season in a row that Chesterfield have missed a penalty at Sincil Bank. Simon Ford was replaced by Whitaker for Chesterfield in a rare example of both sides making first half substitutions. The substitute was quickly in the action as his header was cleared off of the line by Watts before Carson brilliantly saved a Davies header.

Morris was booked for the visitiors  for a foul on McCallum and it was the Canadian who was creating most of the chances for the Imps, but none of the Imps attack were willing to throw themselves at his crosses as clear cut opportunities were few and far between. Grimes was booked at the end of the first half for a high foot.

Davies had an effort go wide fro distance before Carson produced a world class save to deny Robertson after the midfielder was left unmarked to head a ball goalwards. Lee comfortably saved an O'Keefe header before Niven was booked for a foul on Fuseini. Facey and Djilali both required treatment for a clash.

The second half was proving to be a frustrating one for Lincoln. City were having plenty of play but the problem was that none of the midfielders were seemingly able to complete a pass and it was little surprise that the midfield got a bit of a change as Hutchinson came on for McCallum after the midfielder had a goal disallowed for offside.

Chesterfield were the only side creating chances and they took one finally  seven minutes from time when a Whitaker corner was headed in by Holden. Neither side managed another goal and City slipped to 15th in the table.
