Ex-Imp Herd earns new Villa deal

Ex Lincoln City midfielder Chris Herd has signed a new long term contract with Aston Villa. The man from down under was one of the main reasons the Imps stayed up last season and made his Premier League debut earlier this season.

Herd scored a midweek hatrick against Arsenal Reserves in a romping 10-1 victory and celebrated it by signing a new 3 and a half year contract. It comes after many people had speculated that he wouldn't be offered a new loan deal by Villa after being sent out of loan to City, Wycombe and Port Vale in recent years. However, he has signed his new deal after coming off of the bench for his Villa debut against Manchester United earlier in the season.

Speaking to Aston Villa's official website, he said "I'm really happy, I'm just pleased to be here and pleased that I am going to be here for the next three and a half years. When I got offered the contract it wasn't a difficult decision for me at all. A few of the other boys have done really well and have all signed contracts, so it's nice to follow in their footsteps."
