Well travelled Drewe Broughton has joined the Imps on for a second spell following last season's rather unsuccessful loan spell. Despite impressing many with his energetic displays, the striker failed to score for City in seven games. He's League Two's Emile Heskey, always finding himself in the first team in numerous clubs, but rarely actually scoring.
To call Broughton a journeyman would be an understatement. After turning professional in 1996 with Norwich, he has gone on to play for Wigan, Brentford, Peterborough, Nuneaton, Dagenham, Stevenage, Kidderminster (twice), Southend, Rushden (twice), Wycombe, Chester, Boston, MK Dons, Wrexham, Rotherham and of course, the Imps. He has only ever surpassed double figures for two clubs, whereas he has failed to score for six of the sides he has played for.
Broughton did earn a reputation last season for passionate displays in an Imps shirt, but his lack of scoring ability worries many City fans.
He is the fourth new signing, following on from Joe Anyon, Mustapha Carayol and Josh O'Keefe.
he will be associated as probably not a house hold name signing but looking at the bigger picture he has come here to 'do a job' which i have no doubt he will do
I just thought of something that might symbolise his importance to a team. Who remembers Rushden away in 2004/5? Rushden were dominating the second half, it was 1-1, he got sent off and we were 4-1 up within six minutes of him going off.
According to soccerbase he has 95 goals in all comps during his career!
Also has 87 yellow and 11 red cards so thats the other side of the coin with him.
If he plays a decent number of games for us he may hit his season which looks to be around 8 if we get the 'magic man' Mr. Somma and a couple of decent wingers you never know.
Got 9 for rovram as rececntly as 08/09.
Be amazed if equalled his best which 15.
As others have said he'll do 'a job'.
Surely he'll be better than Torpey
He's been brought in to win his fair share of the any balls in the air and bring other players into the game. He also adds some steel, grit and experience which we have sorely lacked. He's the guy that takes two defenders out of the equation by drawing them in and still winning the ball and flicking it on for others around him. Carayol, O'Keefe, hopefully Purcell, and (PLEASE!?!?!?) Somma will come to appreciate him, I'm certain.
Agreed the signing of Drewe doesn't set the world on fire, but I think he's a good team player and I'm not remotely upset by this signing.
It is a bit worrying that it has all gone very quiet on the new striker front. Infact, I don't think Purcell has really been mentioned since they had the story in the Echo a month ago.
It could just be a case where Sutton is expecting six or seven and is budgeting according, but his list of players could shrink to 2/3 and be able to give them more.
Does seem worrying though if six strikers, especially Somma, were offered poor deals.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Sutton thinks strikers will automatically want to come to City because he is a big name at this level?
Good Luck, Mr Gorsky

I hope this wrong I really do.
Find it odd we are meant to have offered Mr. Burch 2.5k a week but only offer a goalscorer £500 a week.
I dont doubt you Norman btw as you've been spot on before just find it odd.
I would think Broughton would of got around 1k a week.
Despite Vitals believing only their own rumours, and totally disbelieving of this, I can say that 1 of the strikers was alledgedly from Notts County and another alledgedly from Accrington - The 500 quid could well of been for a younger player.
I am not knocking the club as it has to live within it's means, but goalscorers cost cash.
Hasn't a young striker left Accy and gone to Bournemouth?
Could if been him.
Totally agree with you Norman and goes against what our new chairman said regarding a new striker in that they would push the boat out to get the right player.
Notts County? O boy he didnt want Facey as well as Broughton did he?
Although there is Westcarr and that lad who got Carlisle promoted a few years back is there as well, cant think of his name though.
Don't think it would have been Westcarr as he signed a new 3 year contract ages ago. If it turns out it was going to be Delroy then the combination of him and Drewe Broughton would have made me seriously reconsidered getting a season ticket as they've be lucky to score five between them a season.
I get a horrible feeling this is going to end up like last year and we're going to end up with players like Jamie Clarke.
As it stands, we haven't got one striker at this club, that includes Hutchinson and Adams, who could realistically reach five goals next year.

I don't think so.
We don't know who the players were/are, what level they were at last season, their age, what wage they may have been on last season.
Thats him, cheers Red Imp.
Maybe these were initial offers to these players?
We may offer more.
If Sutton wants his squad together he needs to get a bit wriggle if he wants them in by June 28th.
After a promising start its all gone a bit flat hasn't it?
Wonder if Gilmour and Lennon were 2 of the 6?
Karl Hawley is still under contract at ours. On a decent whack too if rumours are to be believed.
I don't think Westcarr has actually signed a new contract yet, although I know he has been offered one. He did say in the press he wanted to stay though. Wouldn't be Akinbiyi would it? lol. I doubt it however, I think his career is over now.
