With his loan spell up, it's now time to take a look at Broughton's time at Sincil Bank on loan from Rotherham United. The journeyman striker failed to score for the Imps but his arrival did coincide with an upturn in form, including forming a decent partnership with Davide Somma.

Broughton joined at a time where the Imps were struggling to score goals and his signing wasn't met well by a lot of City fans. This was due to Broughton's reputation in the division as being a bit of a donkey and the Imps were his 17th club, he'd only managed to reach double figures for two of the other clubs.

He joined on loan from Rotherham just a few days after the Millers had recorded their customary win at Sincil Bank, and he started the game against Accrington, a game in which he didn't really do much at all really, but he did set up Chris Herd's goal a few days later at Grimsby.

However, it wasn't until Davide Somma joined that Broughton started to perform and he formed a decent big-man/slightly less-big man partnership. Somma scored the goals and Broughton was effectively the bully that bulldozed the defenders out of the way, City themselves have been the victim of Broughton's intimidating style of play down the years.

However, in the final 135 minutes of football for the Imps he showed how iritating he could be, being constantly flagged offside and causing several promising positions to be wasted. His loan spell ended without him hitting the back of the net once.

So was his loan a success or failure? In the strict rules of being a striker, he was a failure because he didn't score, however, not many can question his effort and this won him several fans amongst the fans. I think if we sign Somma in the pre-season then Broughton would be worth bringing in as it looked like a decent partnership. However, I don't think Broughton would be worth bringing in on his own because if we'd have wanted strikers that only score in the League every once in a while, we'd have kept Jamie Clarke.

I personally would like to see him back in the summer, he has shown he works well with another striker and likening him to Jamie Clarke is like comparing Ronaldo to Tony Cascarino......same position but such different players.

If we are going to play one up top then no but I think Sutton now sees the benefit of playing more than one up front, he now needs to go and get the players to assist in that.

Would I be disappointed if he came in the summer.....no.

I was definately onme of those a bit dismayed when he came and only saw him in the Hereford game and while I agree his lack of ability meant a few promising situations were wasted credit where credit is due I was impressed by his effort and link play in general. He is never going to be a long term answer though in my opinion and I would not be that impressed if he joined in the summer.

I would be very upset if he Joined in the Summer.

The guy can't score, yes he is a target man but they still score, the reason he is saying I would love to come back is because Rotherham will get rid in June.

Target men can be mobile too, Heskey is a taget man, he's mobile and does chip in with Goals. At our level, Pope and Benson are target men and score. In my opinion Somma is big enough to be a target man, he needs pace and craft with him.

No ta he's a donkey.
Cant score and painfully slow.
He did win plenty of headers and held it up ok but Somma can do that and is quicker and scores goals!
He missed two reasonable chances against Crewe alone from memory that he should of scored from.

Here we go again!
Will we ever get the right man?

Heskey scores a goal every 4 games - So he does chip in Stratford, how can you argue with that????

Heskey is mobile too, played for England, Villa and Liverpool so he can't be that bad.

As for Broughton whats he done here- nothing he has scored less than 10 goals in nearly 4 years and has a ratio of one every 6/7 games. SO I am not really supprised either by your comments.
If we want to move forward then, and I will make it clear for you Stratford, then in my opinion, broughton is not the way forward.

Rather than being sarcastic about peoples comments, which a message board is about, then at least back your arguemrnt up. In future I will send you drafts of my replies so you can proof read them.

I don't care who plays as long as there are at least 5 loan players in the side. Can't get enough loanees in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't want to have players willing to sign contracts with us. Obviously they have no talent or ambition, otherwise they would have gone elsewhere.

Change, change, change; its the only constant at the moment.

I'm beginning to think Sincil Bank is a half-way house.
