Lincoln City were very fortunate to gain a much needed victory on Tuesday evening. Accrington had taken a deserved lead and appeared to be the only side who wanted the win, but two late City goals meant that the Imps moved 11 points clear of the relegation zone.  

It has been 14 months, near enough to the day, since the Imps last came behind to win at Sincil Bank and that was also against Accrington Stanley. The win saved Sutton from becoming the first Lincoln manager to fail to get three points over Stanley at Sincil Bank, but it could have been all so different for a Lincoln side who only had two realistic chances all game long.

The game started in a scrappy manager with both sides wasting chances early on, the most guilty of whom was Chris Herd as the Aussie volleyed well wide from a clever Oakes free kick. Broughton headed a Herd cross wide before Symes hit a free kick on the edge of the area completely across the box and out for a throw in. Oakes slipped to let Ryan in, the midfield shooting well over from 25 yards.

Accrington were dominating and Grant was the next to waste a chance as he flicked a shot over Burch. Proctor headed a cross wide of the target. It didn't take long for Accrington to take a deserved lead though as a clever ball through to Grant saw the striker poke the ball past Burch, extending the goalkeeper's run without a clean-sheet.

The returning Nathan Baker was then forced to go off through injury, Ian Pearce coming off of the bench to take over at centre-back. It's the first time since he joined the Imps that he has played at the back rather than upfront.  Neither side managed a chance before the first half ended.

The second half started slowly and it wasn't long before Stefan Oakes  yet again failed to complete a game, being replaced by the returning Saunders. Herd shot well wide of the target with a slice before Miles tried to burst through, only to be denied by good defending from Pearce.

Second half incidents were few are far between and the next noteworthy action came as John-Lewis came on for Gilmour. Broughton was played through on goal but he was adjudged to have handballed it and it appeared as though it definitely wasn't going to be City's night. A City corner resulted in an excellent Accrington counter attack, Burch was forced into make a good save from Symes.

It seemed as though the Imps would be without anything again, but Lennon soon found himself free on goal and he slotted it beyond Dunbavin to give City a rather undeserved equaliser. Accrington dominated the remainder of the match but whilst City's equaliser was undeserved, the winning goal for the Imps was even less deserved, although it was produced from good work from Pearce. The assistant manager/defender/attacker played a ball back across goal following a scramble and Kempson prodded it into his own net. That came in injury time.

It's going to be scrappy and ugly all season, or until were mathmatically safe anyway. So take what we can I say!
