In what was a game of two halves, City took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Herd and Gilmour in a half they had dominated, but the visitors were well on top in the second half and the Imps could consider themselves fortunate to have three points after Bradford wasted several good chances to equalise.  

The Imps got the game under way and were quick to press with Cian Hughton winning a corner, it was however wasted as Chris Brandon intercepted the intended short corner to Scott Kerr. An Anderson ball into the box just missed Facey and the striker also saw a good chance wasted when his effort was blocked by Flynn.  Hughton tested Glennon from distance as the Imps were opening the game impressively.

Watts headed a Saunders delivery wide just minutes before Bradford almost took an undeserved lead. In what pretty much their first attack, O'Brien found himself one-on-one with Burch, but the goalkeeper saved well.

Gilmour sent a few crosses into the box and with just over half an hour gone, his clever through ball released Chris Herd. The Aussie ran through on goal and slotted nicely past Glennon to give Imps a deserved lead against the self-proclaimed biggest club in the division.

Daley forced a corner in a rare attack from Bradford, it came to nothing. It wasn't long before the Imps extended their lead six minutes after the first when Facey lofted the ball over the defender and Gilmour ran onto it. Despite being considerably smaller than the two defenders trying to bustle him off of the ball, he kept on his feet and slid it beyond Glennon and into the net for his first goal for the Imps.

City saw out the rest of the half and went into the break as deserving leaders. Bradford made two chances half time with Bateson and Rehman making way for Steve Williams and Michael Boulding.

The Imps started the second half like they had the first, with Herd being released through on goal, only to then be tackled by Ramsden. Gilmour and Facey both also had chances that went begging.

It was at this point that the visitors started to get back into the game and they pulled one back after the hour mark. An O'Brien cross was curled towards goal and Michael Boulding stuck a leg out and yet again scored at Sincil Bank, something he has a habit of doing and it was now game on. Boulding shot just over seconds later in what would have been an undeserved equaliser. Uwezu replaced Gilmour.

Daley shot straight at Burch from distance before Chris Brandon conspired to blaze well over from six yards out. O'Brien was next to try his luck as he weaved through the defence and forced Burch into a fine save. Herd was replaced by Clarke after the Aussie appeared to pick up a knock. Neilson came on for Evans in Bradford's final substitution.

John-Lewis was quickly in the action after replacing Facey as he won a corner. Baker headed a cross wide from Saunders. At this point Bradford were starting to look very similar to the City of two months ago, having plenty of possession but not really doing a lot with it. Glennon joined the attack for a corner at the end of added on time, but when the ball was cleared to John-Lewis, the striker strangely decided not to shoot into an open net, but it was 3 points for the Imps.
