Rotherham Titans first match of the season away at Bedford has been postponed by English First Division Rugby. This has been done to allow the local consortium working to save Rotherham Rugby Club more time to finalise their plans. The local consortium working to save Rotherham Rugby Club continues to work with the RFU to ensure that they can play National Division One rugby this season.

Representatives of the consortium held a positive and constructive meeting with officials of the sport’s governing body at Twickenham yesterday, but after a request for further information and the looming bank holiday weekend, a decision on the acceptance of the proposal is unlikely to be reached before Tuesday.

“We’ve got a substantial pledged investment in excess of £500,000 but the job isn’t done”, said consortium representative Allan McHale.

“Given the shortness of time, we haven’t contacted many of the individuals and businesses who have been traditional supporters of the club. We are actively looking to get more on board so that we can establish a wide and solid base. The door is open to those that are able to invest or to help in kind.”

First Division Rugby, the body that organise the National Division One competition, have postponed Rotherham’s first game of the season against Bedford which will be re-arranged for a later date if the proposal is accepted.

- The supporters club are holding a meeting at Clifton Lane this evening at 8pm to discuss various ways in which they can assist with fund-raising.
