MURTY BACKS HUGHES
Reading full back Greame Murty has backed his team mate Andy Hughes to prove the boo boys wrong after disgraceful scenes at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.

Hughes were jeered off the pitch by a minority of supporters after 80 minutes in the 3-0 defeat against Watford in the 2nd Round Carling Cup.

Murty said on the issue;

"I was very disappointed with that reaction to be honest, I thought it was very harsh. I hope people know how much Hughesy contributes to the team and for someone who is wholehearted and genuine to get that level of was out of order, and everyone at the club thought the same thing."

It's become clear from day 1 that Hughes would be a talking point for Royals supporters all the time since moving from Notts County in the summer of 2001. Hughesy has proved to be too inconsistent for many fans.

Another talking point was the best position Hughes should have in the team. Many supporters feel his best place is in central midfield as the attacker but former Royals boss Alan Pardew and current boss Steve Coppell have both used Hughesy on the wing, even though he hasn't impressed. Hughes himself has admitted he doesn't consider himself to be a winger.

A problem that Hughesy faces is that the Royals don't play the 4-5-1 formation where he excelled as the attacking midfielder.

But many supporters fail to take into account the fact that Hughesy is willing to play anywhere and along with Murty himself, gives a hell of a lot effort for the cause.

The current 1871Royals Poll suggests that Hughesy was wrongly booed by a minority of the crowd.

Tomorrow is a massive match for the Royals, and lets hope that the Barmy Army can give Hughesy a massive welcome and support because the booing was unjustified.
