Injury cursed midfielder Muzzy Izzet could finally be ready to return and help blues push for a top ten finish! Izzet has resumed light training and could be available for the West Bromwich Albion game.

After his summer move to the Blues, Muzzy Izzet was expected to be the creative spark in blues new look midfield. But the man who finished as last years top assister got an injury early on in his blues career and has yet to return to the first team.

It seems a long time ago when Muzzy Izzet was taken off following a collision with Newcastles Oliver Bernard on the 3rd October 2004. But ever since that game Izzet has been plagued by injury to his knee.

At first it was thought it was just a twisted knee which would keep him out for a few weeks. And Izzet was able to return, briefly, to help blues to a 1-0 victory at Anfield. But he was soon sidelined again as the knee took another knock.

The ex-Leicester City man was sent to hospital to undergo a scan on the injured knee which revealed he had bad bruising on the bone. This caused the bone to splinter and swell up making it difficult for Muzzy to train.

But after long hours spent with the physio, Izzet is finally able to return to training and push for a first team place in Steve Bruce's new look side. Bruce is just waiting for the news that the inflammation in Muzzy's knee has settled down and the Turkey international can be recalled to the side.

"It's a difficult one with him but we are quite confident there's nothing too serious. The bruising he's had on the bone caused it to splinter."

"We've got to wait for all that inflammation to settle down properly." said Bruce.

With that in mind, Bruce is hopefull Izzet can feature in the West Midlands derby against West Bromwich Albion on the 6th of March.
