Blues veteran midfielder Darren Anderton has agreed an extension to his current contract with the club that will see him stay at St Andrews until 2006.

Blues midfielder Darren Anderton has agreed to stay on at St Andrews for another season following his recent run in the first team squad.

Anderton, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, signed for Blues in the summer on a free transfer following his release from Tottenham Hotspurs and was initially signed on a pay-as-you-play contract as blues were worried that an injury set back may strike.

But manager Steve Bruce put Anderton on a pre-season training schedule and slowly eased him into the team allowing the ex-England man chance to get back his match fitness and prove his injury days were behind him. 

Now Anderton has featured in sixteen games for blues this season scoring three goals during this time including the winner against Liverpool and the fourth goal against West Brom.

With Robbie Savage set to leave and blues short on midfield cover Steve Bruce has rewarded Anderton with a new deal which will run out in the summer of 2006. The contract will automatically terminate though should blues do the unthinkable and get relegated this season.
