Charlton Athletic have accepted defender Paul Konchesky’s recent transfer request. The 22 year old is frustrated with the club after being moved out of his preferred position for large parts of last season. The ambitious left back believes a move will help his England career. The official Charlton Athletic website has stated: “Charlton have received a written transfer request from Paul Konchesky”

“With considerable reluctance, the club have granted the request.”

Paul Konchesky has been put on the transfer list after Charlton Athletic received and accepted a written transfer request this morning. The talented defender believes a move away from the Valley will help his England prospects.

The player is annoyed that he was shunted out of the left back position at Charlton believing his preferred left back position is the best way he can be noticed and selected for England’s Euro 2004 campaign next year.

Paul made his debut for Charlton at the age of 16 and has become a regular in the side. He stated “I feel I have a realistic chance of getting to Euro 2004”

“If I have to leave Charlton to do that, then I have some very difficult decisions to make”

“It's not a decision about money - it's purely a football decision based on football reasons”

“I could have waited until the start of the season to make the decision but I thought that would be unfair on the club”

“I've told Alan Curbishley that, while I'm at Charlton, I'll remain 100% committed to the cause.”
