Kidderminster Harriers won their first game in ten today with a 2-1 win over Carlisle. This was Kidder's first ever league win over the Cumbrians, who remain routed to the bottom of the league.
HARRIERS 2 CARLISLE 1
A hard fought win at last for Kidder as they finally broke their League duck against bottom side Carlisle.
To be honest it was quite a scrappy game and I think we just done enough to win it. the major plus prior to the game was the return of JJ Melligan, who got a great reaction from the home crowd. Harriers did create a few openings in the 1st half, with Andy Bishop going close. Carlisle too had their chances but the game didn’t get fully charged until the second half.
Finally Harriers got a breakthrough and it was a well worked goal. Bo played his part by playing a fine ball into the box, the ball eventually fell for Danny Williams whose accurate cross was headed in firmly by Andy Bishop. Bish hadn’t scored since Darlo and it was a great relief for the lad. Harriers did start to look on top but the Carlisle started to come back.
The Cumbrians equalised with a 25 yard effort from Murphy beating Brock at his near post. From then on it was really anyone’s game. JJ broke into the box only for Glennon in the Carlisle goal to smother it. probably the best chance of the game was wasted by Carlisle’s Foran. From a free kick he had a completely free header with only Brock to beat but he managed to head wide, luckily for Kidder.
Harriers had brought on Lloyd Dyer and Dean Bennett in an attempt to win the game and were also pressing and eventually did break through and it was Danny Williams again. Firstly he had one of his thunderbolt free kicks headed off the line as it deflected though the wall. Moments later Harriers had another free kick, after a foul on Henriksen. I did think perhaps someone else might have a go but luckily Danny did. As usual he hit an absolute BumSmacker and the force carried it through the wall and into the net for the winner.
The Cumbrian’s did try and get back and did create Harriers a few problems but the defence held out for the win. Our first win in 10 games.
So lets hope we can carry on from here. Lets not get carried away just yet, but JJ’s arrival has given everyone a lift. The young Irishman seems very happy to be back, his fellow players seem pleased as well and of course Britt does. Us fans are equally chuffed as well. Britt did say in his notes that he is still after a striker and to be honest I think we still need one. Both Bo and Bish did well today but we need another, if only for numbers. We only have four frontmen and only one in reality, Bish’s loan is now up so he may leave. Matt Lewis is out on loan and John Williams is on a short term deal.
Still lets enjoy tonight and hope we can carry it on. Basically another 13 wins should see us safe. Until those have been won, no one can relax.
JUMPJET POLL
Will leave poll on for a bit longer, nice to sewe how people feel now weve won one.
