Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the entire World Cup finals in Germany with a knee problem.

The 24-year-old, pivotal to Serbia & Montenegro's hopes of glory, picked up the knock during a training session on Monday. He had already missed the Serbs' opening match against the Netherlands, a slim 1-0 defeat, through suspension.

The news leaves the Eastern European's World Cup bid in tatters. They are now left with a 21-man squad following Dusan Petkovic's withdrawal from the squad. The loss to the Dutch leaves them needing something of a miraculous recovery to qualify from Group C, labelled 'The Group of Death' by pundits.
