Arsenal chairman David Dein has been voted off the FA board, to be replaced with Manchester United chief executive David Gill. The 48-year-old is also a leading figure within the G14.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has replaced Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein on the Football Association board, following a vote.

Dein is one of the most well-known faces in British football, but his position on the board has always caused great controversy. He was criticised for his role in helping to appoint the new England manager, whilst recent revelations about payments made by Arsenal to Belgian club Beveren have sparked outrage.

"I am looking forward to working with my fellow board members." said Gill.

Dein had faced public criticism from other Premiership managers for his "suspicious" work within the board. Jose Mourinho questioned why Arsenal played five of their next six league games at home following a Champions League trip, whilst Chelsea played five of their next six away from home. Consequently, following such controversies, he has been voted off the board in favour of United's chief executive, though Dein remains on the less influential FA Council.

Gill now becomes one of four Premier League representatives to sit on the board, joining Dave Richards, Phil Gartside and Robert Coar. He adds this position to his role as vice-chairman of the G14.
