Darren Fletcher played the full 90 minutes as Scotland held Japan to a goalless draw in Tokyo to secure Kirin Cup success. The result, which followed a 5-1 rout of Bulgaria, ends an impressive tour of Asia from Walter Smith's men.

Darren Fletcher was again in Scottish action on Saturday as Walter Smith's men secured Kirin Cup success.

As 58,648 spectators watched on, the Scots put in a resolute rearguard action to hold the tournament hosts to a stalemate. The result was enough to secure the silverware following a 5-1 demolition of Bulgaria earlier in the week.

Winning this mini-competition will not provide much consolidation for Scotland's failure to qualify for the forthcoming World Cup. However, particularly against Bulgaria, the tourists looked an improving side and will see this minor success as a building block for the future.
