Manchester United have confirmed plans for their pre-season tour of South Africa. The club announced a 10-day itinerary at the tour launch in Johannesburg, with the Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs set to entertain the Red Devils.

Manchester United FC have confirmed the itinerary for their forthcoming pre-season tour of South Africa.

The Red Devils kick-off their three-match tour on July 15th before travelling to Cape Town to face the Kaizer Chiefs on the 18th. Anyone predicting a riot? Ahem, I’ll get my coat.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men finish their tour with a July 22nd outing in Pretoria, rather predictably, against the winners of a friendly between the Pirates and the Chiefs.

United have been heavily criticised in recent years for placing too much emphasis on high-profile trips abroad. This latest excursion is expected to be fairly low-key, with none of the club’s World Cup stars expected to be involved.

The Red Devils will also compete in the much-respected Amsterdam Cup over the summer, but Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup means the United must win the league to be involved in August’s Community Shield.
