Meulensteen Appointed New Reserve Coach

Manchester United have announced that Skills Development Coach Rene Meulensteen will succeed Ricky Sbragia as the Red Devils' Reserve team coach. Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his intentions to stay at Old Trafford despite tempting links to La Liga giants Barcelona and Real


The 41-year-old Dutchman has been at Old Trafford for a few years and knows the academy and reserve set-up inside out.

Sir Alex Ferguson had no problem promoting Meulensteen and stated: "In most cases you like to promote from within and we are delighted to install Rene as Reserve team coach.

"Rene has been technical coach for all the youth players for the last five years and he will continue the work he has been doing with the Academy."

Meulensteen also revealed his delight and excitement, saying: "I'm delighted with the opportunity given to me by the club and Sir Alex. I strongly believe this appointment strengthens links between the players at Academy level and the professionals."
