Darren Fletcher and John O’Shea have both extended their Manchester United contracts until 2009. The duo, both regulars on the international scene, will be hoping to lay the foundations for a new era of Red Devils success. Manchester United have been boosted by the news that potential stars Darren Fletcher and John O’Shea have committed their long-term futures to the club.

O’Shea started his career at United as a central defender, but has since become a versatile utility player used in a variety or roles by Sir Alex Ferguson. The Irishman has covered on both sides of the backline and has also played in midfield roles.

Fletcher, at 21 years of age, is enjoying more and more first-team opportunities at Old Trafford. Questions have been raised at whether the midfielder has the ability to perform at the very highest level, but he is undoubtedly a player with tremendous promise who has improved greatly.

"I hope one day I can reach the level of Roy Keane and Paul Scholes," said the Scotsman, who has become an influential member of his country’s squad.
