Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes the young Red Devils out on loan should grab their chance with both hands in order to impress Sir Alex Ferguson.

Kieran Richardson benefited from that last season following a very successful loan-spell at West Brom and is now more involved in first-team affairs and even won senior caps for England.

Neville, currently nursing a groin injury, is a fan of loaning out youngsters. "Going out on loan serves a few purposes. They'll gain invaluable experience in competitive matches in front of big crowds and they will learn about the need to win games."

The right-back was one of many house-hold names including Ryan Giggs and David Beckham who progressed through the youth ranks at Old Trafford around 10 years ago. 

"Some people will see the players in front of them and become scared. I remember what it was like when myself, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham were in the same situation," he recalled.

"You've got to be special in a certain way whether it be through your ability or your attitude - you've just got to be different in some way, you can't be ordinary because you won't make it out there."

Youngsters such as David Jones and Ben Foster are all currently playing their trade on-loan.
