John O'Shea has admitted he hopes to sign a new contract with Manchester United before the start of the new Premiership season, which kicks off on Saturday for United, who face Everton. The Republic of Ireland international defender has been linked with an audacious move to Celtic to solve their defensive troubles, but is fully focused on life at Old Trafford

"I am very close to signing a new four-year deal and, fingers crossed, that will be done and dusted before the start of the season," said the 24-year-old.

"That will take me to around 27 or 28-years-old which people say is around the time you reach your prime.

"Overall, I am looking forward to spending a lot more time at United and enjoying lots more success."
